Ship's log by passenger aboard the ship George Washington : ms and photostat, 1849 Mar. 30-May 18.

Original, leather-bound pocket diary (49 p.), presumably v. 2 of a possible three-volume set, with a photostat and a negative facsimile of what appears to be the first few pages of v. 1, which includes a title page, list of ship's officers, and list of passengers, for a voyage from New York to San Francisco via Cape Horn. The pocket diary spans Mar. 30-May 18, and begins at sea a few days from St. Catherine. Curry describes the weather and significant events, including an encounter with what appeared to be a pirate ship, a stop in the port of St. Catherine, and an episode in which a man fell overboard to his death. The diary stops near the Faulkland Islands.
